Although we have now entered 2021, far past the time many believed issues of diversity would remain, in many fields, there is still a woeful lack of staffing diversity. This year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the most diverse staff in NFL history, according to Jarrett Bell’s USA Today article. With three black coaches and women on staff, the Bucs are paving the way for staffing practices, made sweeter by the fact that they have advanced to the Super Bowl this year. In Bell’s article, he quotes Bruce Arians, the Bucs head coach, “I think you have to have different outlooks to get input…It helps to have all that diversity, so the guys hear it in different ways.” Arians’ emphasis on staff diversity demonstrates that many perspectives and experiences are necessary to have real success.
