LGTBQ Bill Passed by House

This past Thursday, the House of Representatives passed the Equality Act, a bill that prohibits any discrimination based on sexual orientation or identity across many areas. This bill is a massive victory for the LGBTQ community as it will protect against discrimination in areas like education, employment, healthcare, housing, and more.

According to Dan Avery’s NBC  article, the vote’s outcome mostly followed party lines, with the final tally at 224-206. Three Republicans voted in favor of the legislation. This bill had President Biden’s support, who included it as a priority during his first 100 days. Avery quoted Representative David Cicilline, “‘The time has come to extend the blessings of liberty and equality to all Americans, regardless of who they are or who they love.’”
