IBM was recently made to pay an exorbitant settlement of $11 million after a jury stated that they unlawfully terminated an employee who alleged racial discrimination. According to an HR Drive article by Lisa Burden, an IBM employee shared with a manager that he believed racial discrimination occurred and was shortly after released from his position.
According to the article, “Experts frequently recommend that employers take all complaints seriously and follow up reports of misconduct with good-faith investigations.” Taking employee complaints seriously is critically important to ensuring a healthy working environment.
