ESPN Reporter Replaced for NBA Finals

An ESPN reporter, Rachel Nichols, has been replaced as an NBA Final sideline reporter following racially charged comments she made about another reporter. According to a USA Today article by Chris Bumbaca, Nichols made a comment that was caught on video, unbeknownst to her, where she stated that she believed that the network’s decision to select another Black reporter was based on pressure from the public.

Though she has apologized on the air, she is still facing public scrutiny. ESPN released a statement that shared their opinion that the outcome was  the “best decision for all concerned in order to keep the focus on the NBA Finals.” Nichols has kept her job as the host of “The Jump,” according to the article.
