A restaurant in Louisiana recently apologized for the treatment of two black patrons by two of their employees. Desi Vega’s Seafood and Prime Steakhouse faces public attention after two patrons were automatically charged a 20% gratuity on their bill. After raising this issue with their server, the server informed them that this was standard procedure, which the manager confirmed after being called over.
According to Ann W. Schmidt’s Fox News article, the two employees have been placed on leave without pay and have admitted that racial bias was involved in their decision to charge the couple. The restaurant released a public apology stating that they stand against any type of discrimination and promise to create a standard policy regarding tipping for their employees to follow.
